You can assign swords to complete duties around Honmaru where they can gain +1 to certain stats.
The three duties are
- Horsekeeping – may increase LEA (Leadership) OR MBT (Mobility) by 1, Reward: Fertilizer
- Fieldwork – may increase HP (Survival) OR RCN (Reconnaissance) by 1, Reward: Produce
- Sparring – may increase ATK (Attack) OR FOR (Force) by 1, Reward: White Konpeito
As discussed on other guides, HP and RCN can only be increased by doing Fieldwork.
Once a sword reaches a max stat, they can no longer increase that stat through Duties.
To complete a task, you must pair two swords but you are not required to fill all Duties in order to start them. Once you have started them, your swords will be locked in their duties for the next 24 hours, but are still free to do Sorties.
When the 24 hours is done, the game will randomly select one stat to raise. There is also a chance that the game may even chose to fail a sword and not give them an increase at all. Once again, this is all random. If a sword has a stat maxed out, and that stat is the random one chosen, the game will show MAX next to the stat.
Rewards
After completing some duties, your swords may return to you with items that will do certain other things either in duties or the overall game.
Fertilizer
Adding fertilizer to you fieldwork will increase the number of produce the swords will obtain. It guarantees at least 2 of each type.
There is also a Special Fertilizer that you can purchase for 60 credits daily that will guarantee at least 3 of each type. They do expire, so use them as soon as you can.
Produce
Produce can be exchanged on the bottom left of duties for backdrops and items. Some produce can only be harvested in duties and others can only be harvested on Sortie. These items also expire, so use them up when you can before they are removed from your inventory.
White Konpeito
This item will give any sword that is not max level 500 EXP. They do not expire and you can use multiples at a time.
Interactions
The game will randomly select one pair and show them discussing their duties and, if they are doing Horsekeeping or Fieldwork, they will be shown in casual attire.
While most discussions will be generic, you may receive a special dialogue due to some sword pairings.
